The story revolves around Claude, a mute protagonist who embarks on a journey for revenge after being betrayed and left for dead by his lover during a heist and encounters a world of crime, narcotics, gang violence, and corruption. The narrative takes place in Liberty City, a made-up city that is based somewhat on New York City. The game's landscape may be explored on foot or by automobile, and the third-person viewpoint is used throughout. Liberty City's open-world design gives players the freedom to explore its three main zones.
