Need for Speed: Most Wanted takes place in an open world. The gameplay approach is similar to the original Most Wanted release in the Need for Speed franchise, with the exception that 2012 Most Wanted lacks a plot. Most Wanted allows players to choose one car and compete against other racers in three types of events: sprint races (traveling from one point of the city to another), circuit races (two or three laps total), and speed runs (traveling through a course at the highest average speed possible). There are also Ambush races, in which the player is encircled by cops and must flee as soon as possible.
