Racing video game Need for Speed: Underground 2 was created by EA Black Box and released by Electronic Arts in 2004. It is both the direct continuation of Need for Speed: Underground and the eighth entry in the Need for Speed series. It was created for Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Microsoft Windows. Need for Speed: Underground Rivals was created by Team Fusion for the PlayStation Portable, while Pocketeers created versions for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. Moreover, a version for mobile devices was created. It was just as financially successful as its predecessor, selling almost 11 million copies globally and shattering sales records in the United Kingdom.

The Need for Speed: Underground plot is continued in the game, which involves modifying automobiles for street racing. Many new features are included in Need for Speed: Underground 2, which is situated in the Bayview-themed city and offers more personalization options and new ways to choose between races. The character Rachel Teller, who directs the player throughout the game, is voiced by Brooke Burke. The narrative of the game is shown like a comic strip. The Nintendo DS port adds a new function that allows the user to create unique stickers to adorn any gaming vehicle.
